After completing the initial phase of customization work through visual styling & branding options, the attention then turned to exploring deeper customization features. Through more research, we found that the invoice content itself was an opportunity to expand the control we provide to Sellers, furthering to help them better represent their businesses & appear more professional to prospective Buyers.
While many of these upmarket Sellers we were targeting placed a heavy emphasis on what they looked like to their clients, an overlooked aspect was the actual invoice content that was describing their specific business or services provided. Nothing about a therapist billing a 'Customer' 'Quantities' of hours of feels bespoke; and being able to provide that feeling is what mattered to HVI's.
The first step in this project was to identify the highest priority verticals to target with this content customization. Those would inform us on both how to approach & organize these different content variations, as well what the actual variations should be.
Once we decided on what options we wanted to provide and the initial verticals to support, the design process itself was relatively straightforward. We expanded the recently built Customization page to also include a content customization section, with a series of dropdowns for each of the respective fields.
The most challenging part was the process of auditing the entire product, and identifying the areas where these content changes would reflect. Looking to minimize possible confusion, we wanted to ensure the same verbiage was being seen by both the Seller on their dashboard, as well as the Buyer through the invoicing process.
